Overheating assessment FAQs

Get answers to some of our most commonly asked questions.

What is the CIBSE TM59 methodology?

CIBE TM59 is a recognised method for assessing overheating risk in homes. It uses dynamic thermal modelling to simulate internal temperatures and determine whether a property is likely to become uncomfortably hot during the summer season.

When should I arrange an overheating assessment?

Ideally, as early as possible in your design process. An early assessment will allow for more flexibility in making adjustments that don’t affect your timeline or budget – and can help avoid costly retrofits later down the line.

How long does the assessment take?

This can vary on a few different things – such as the size and complexity of your project. However, we always aim to deliver clear, complaint reports quickly to keep your project moving without delays.

Is a site visit required?

Not always – most new builds only require a simplified overheating assessment that can be performed without a site visit, using architectural drawings and specifications. However, in some cases where the simplified assessment fails or is deemed unsuitable, a more detailed Dynamic Thermal Model (DTM) assessment may be required. These usually involve a site visit.

Where do you serve?

Based in the heart of Sheffield, we work with clients across the city. Whether you’re a builder in Broomhill, an architect in Attercliffe or a developer in Gleadless, get in touch with us today to arrange your overheating assessment.
